Stages of Grief? NOPE.
Normal process for Grief? NOPE.
You can expect “x”, “y”, “z” from Grief? NOPE.
So what is it? How do we define Grief?
We can’t, because it’s totally different for every person. For that same person grief is different every day.
People who try to define it are usually full of shit.
Grief is completely different for everyone.
Grief never stops. Love never stops.
Grief is LOVE.
Grief is a Blizzard.
Grief is a blizzard.
You’re driving along the highway and all of a sudden snow starts to appear. Visibility is getting increasingly worse. Pulling off to the side of the road isn’t safe because you can get stuck, or you can get smashed by another vehicle, so you just keep driving. very slowly.
It’s now a total whiteout and you are scared. You think someone is in front of you, but you can’t see them. You thought you remembered someone behind you, but you can’t see them. You know you have to keep going, but you don’t want to go alone.
The whiteout is disorienting and you hope you’re still on the road. You’re afraid of spinning out and crashing.
Where is the road? Where are the other vehicles?
You call your partner. They don’t answer.
You call a friend. They don’t answer.
You call another friend. They don’t answer.
It feels completely hopeless and then your partner calls you back. You ask them to stay on the phone with you – even just in silence – so you are not alone. You ask if they’ll stay on the phone with you until visibility improves and you feel safer.
You just keep driving, hoping to see another vehicle, any vehicle, on this road to help guide your way through the storm.
There is Hope.
Grief is different for everyone. What helps me find peace may be different than what helps you find peace. Even though this is true, it doesn’t mean that you should just give up.
The reality is that you may not even know what will bring you peace or comfort!!
